The Biggest Solar Renewable Energy Projects Across the Globe
It is delightful to find out that there are promising developments in the renewable energy industry, especially with climate change concerns growing. Despite the extent of the problem, there is still hope. This is evident in recent developments in solar renewable energy.
Let us take a look at the largest projects in the field. Here are three of the most promising solar renewable energy projects on the planet right now:
1. Golmud Solar Park
China has already established itself as a leader in terms of solar capacity. It, therefore, makes sense that the biggest solar park in the world is found here. Also known as the Huanghe Hydropower Hainan Solar Park, this is a 2.3 GW state-owned solar project in Qinghai Province. It aims to achieve a 16 GW max solar capacity in the coming years. Thus far, it has been invested with over 2.2 billion USD. In 2020, it was connected to the power grid in an official capacity.
2. Enel Villanueva Photovoltaic Plant
This is located in the state of Coahuila in Mexico. The Enel Villanueva PV Plant is composed of over 2.5 million solar panels across a plot of 2,400 hectares of semi-arid land. This 828 MW facility started its full operations in September 2018. It boasts a max production capacity of over 2,000 GWh per year. The Enel Group poured over 700 million USD into its construction, which involved the deployment of a pilot program via automation and digital technologies.
3. Sweihan Photovoltaic Independent Power Project
Found in Sweihan, Abu Dhabi, this facility has a coverage of 7.8 square kilometers. The Sweihan Photovoltaic Independent Power Project was a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority, Marubeni Corporation, and Junko Solar. Overall, 870 million USD was invested into it.
This project makes use of a module layout design, advanced project maintenance, and monocrystalline solar modules to guarantee low power generation cost. It started its commercial operations in April 2019. The latest data shows that it can supply power to over 195,000 households in the region.
